SUMMARY:First Friday Artist Spotlight: Adrian Poole
DESCRIPTION:Our First Friday Artist Spotlight returns with a gallery popup by local artist Adrian Poole! \nArtist Bio:\nMy name is Adrian Poole and I am from Newark\, Delaware. I grew up reading Mad Magazine and watching old horror films\, which influenced my visual style. After studying art in Boston and moving to Portland in 2015\, I became interested in collecting video tapes\, starting with the purchase of Rawhead Rex. One afternoon I decided to paint the demon poodle from the VHS cover for The Boneyard. This led to more illustrations of genre films released during the video store era. The grainy quality of tape possesses a psychedelic aura that has inspired the acidic\, saturated look of this series. \nYou can find more information about Adrian Poole’s work on his website: \nhttps://www.adrianpoole.com/

SUMMARY:First Friday Artist Spotlight - 777 with Brian Harper
DESCRIPTION:The Movie Madness First Friday Artist Spotlight Series returns with the SOV horror oddity\, 777 (1997)\, screening twice at 6pm (sold out) and 8pm (sold out) with star Brian Harper in attendance. \nAfter watching a VHS tape of serial killer Ray Hineman\, Rob\, a young teen\, interprets a journey to salvation can be found through the sacrifice of human life.  As his body count rises and the truth of his strange macabre neighborhood comes to light\, Rob spirals deeper into a surreal fever dream he can’t return from. \nThis 1997 shot on video blood soaked affair was created entirely by freshman in high school.  Filled with creative homemade special effects and a passion for the slasher genre\, this feature brings you into a hellscape that can only exist at night. \nWe will be joined by lead actor\, Brian Harper\, for a QA after each screening. Here is a little bit about his role in the film:\n“My name is Brian Harper and I played the lead role of Rob and helped create 777.  Colin Anson (Director) and I met in grade school and bonded over our love for film.  We were both obsessed with Horror and sketch comedy\, which would lead to us creating numerous short films.  In 1996\, during our freshman year of high school\, we decided to shoot our first feature film.  777 was the finished product after a year and a half devotion to this art form.  I’ve called Portland my home for 15yrs and never expected nor imagined to have this childhood artifact be unearthed again.  It is a real honor for this opportunity and I’m stoked for this to have a wider audience.” \n\n \nTickets available below:\nHollywood Theatre – 777 – Movie Madness First Friday\n\nThis film is available on the Bleeding Skull “Backyard Bloodbaths” blu-ray collection.

SUMMARY:SRS Cinema Presents - BRUSH OF THE GOD
DESCRIPTION:SRS Cinema presents the directorial debut of legendary kaiju suit designer\, Keizo Murase\, in the Movie Madness Miniplex! \nMaster artisan Keizo Murase\, known for his suit designs and sculptures\, has crafted memorable monster costumes for many titles in the GODZILLA\, GAMERA\, DAIMAJIN\, KAMEN RIDER and ULTRAMAN franchises. The kaiju scenes are of course a joy\, done in the classic style that Murase himself was vital in defining. SUMMARY:Media Blasters Presents - KITE: LIBERATOR
DESCRIPTION:Media Blasters presents the bizarre sci-fi follow-up to the controversial classic\, KITE (1998)\, in the Movie Madness Miniplex! \nIn 1998’s Kite\, creator/director Yasuomi Umetsu explored the dark underworld of a teenage girl assassin. In Kite: Liberator (which is more of a spin-off than a direct sequel)\, ten years has now passed. A new teenage assassin is cleaning up the grimy streets of Tokyo. The police call her the Angel of Death\, an unfeeling assassin who eliminates targets with grace and precision\, leaving only a flurry of feathers across the bloody crime scene as a calling card. What the public is unaware of is that this notorious hit man is actually a polite young lady named Monaka. Could the placid face of an innocent high school girl really disguise such a ruthless killer? Monaka seems to be just an average high school girl. But she has a dark and terrible secret linking her past to a murderous police detective and her future to a fatal duel with the one person she loves most in the world. \nMonday\, January 12th at \n6pm & 8pm \nTICKETS HERE! \nLanguage: Japanese Language with English Subtitles \nRuntime: 58 minutes \nYear: 2007 \nTrailer
