Legendary director Frank Henenlotter made grindhouse history in 1982 when he brought his low budget body horror/monster oddity BASKET CASE to unsuspecting theaters around the world. Written for the lowest budget possible and filmed on location in the seedy Times Square district of Manhattan for $35,000, BASKET CASE tells the story of two conjoined and telepathic twins who seek revenge on the surgeons who separated them at birth. Panned by critics upon its release, BASKET CASE slowly garnered a deeply loyal cult fan following and eventually reached its intended audience when it was re-released on VHS. Eight years later, Henenlotter resurrected his characters for BASKET CASE 2, much to the delight of fans and even critics who this time around praised the sequel as "a hilarious genre spoof.” BASKET CASE 3: THE PROGENY soon followed in 1991, picking up where its predecessor left off while ramping up the paranoia and going absolutely overboard with practical effects, gore and slapstick gags.
