City Lights

Cost: $22 ($18 members)
CITY LIGHTS (1931, 87 min) was both one of the greatest comedies and silent films ever made-- and it was made three years after the silent era had ended. Brilliant physical commentary mixed with romance and a biting commentary on inequality and the Great Depression that feels as relevant as it was in 1931, this class will explore not only the themes and techniques used in CITY LIGHTS but also the life of Charlie Chaplin, and his struggles in getting a silent film made in a world that had already passed him by.
This class will be taught by Mark Russell, author and a comic book writer known for his work on DC and Marvel heroes such as Superman, Batman, and the Fantastic Four, as well as his work on titles like The Flintstones, Second Coming, and Not All Robots.
CITY LIGHTS is presented in partnership with the Northwest Museum of Cartoon Arts.
Class size will be limited to 18.
