In 2013, Cameroonian journalist Eric Lembembe was tortured and beaten to death for being gay and for advocating LGBTQ+ rights. Shocked by this, filmmaker Appolain Siewe returns to Cameroon to investigate the country's treatment of LGBTQ+ individuals. Siewe, who now lives in Europe, confronts his own homophobic upbringing and faces rejection from his family over his film. Through interviews with activists, scholars, and human rights experts, CODE OF FEAR explores the roots of homophobia in Cameroon, particularly the impact of colonial laws that erased queer African cultures. Siewe's journey highlights the deep personal and societal costs of supporting queer rights in Africa, while also exposing the historical factors that have shaped anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments in the region.
