Evil Dead (1981)

Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell began as friends making scrappy, low-budget films, and together they created one of the most iconic partnerships in horror.

In this one-night class, we’ll dive into Raimi’s inventive directing style and Campbell’s unforgettable, larger-than-life performance in the 1981 supernatural film, EVIL DEAD (1981, 80 min) that kicked off a cult franchise and made Campbell’s chin almost as famous as the movie itself. We’ll also look at how their creativity and resourcefulness inspired a generation of filmmakers and cemented the film’s place in horror history.

This class will be taught by MMU instructor Kia Anne Geraths, a filmmaker and educator. Some of her previous classes include her WTF Was That?! Series, Cult Horror of the 1980’s, and Intro to New Zealand Cinema.

Class size will be limited to 18.
