Feeding Worms to the Dead Mother: The Babadook
Director Jennifer Kent's startling first feature, THE BABADOOK (2014, 1994) has been heralded as an innovator in the horror genre, but it's also a moving treatise on trauma. The mother at the center of this film struggles to manage her monstrous grief, but her son soon sounds the alarm that all is not well at home.
In this class, we’ll make use of French psychoanalyst Andre Green's "dead mother complex" to consider the disturbing dynamics playing out on the screen.
This class is taught by guest instructors Francoise Eipper MD and Alice Huang MD of the Oregon Psychoanalytic Center. Fran and Alice are psychoanalysts and lovers of film. There will be a concurrent course offered through OPC that you can find here.
Class size will be limited to 18.
