Kill Bill Vol. 2

At first glance, KILL BILL VOL. 2 (2004, 137 min) plays like a straightforward story about vengeance taken to the extreme: a soured romance deteriorates into toxic hatred, chaos ensues, and a lot of people die. Yet, the final act is ambiguous as tenderness and love emerge as an unexpected complement to the turmoil and hate.

In this class, we’ll use Quentin Tarantino’s film as a starting point to explore psychoanalytic ideas about creative partnership.  Does our emotionally destructive couple succeed in finding a constructive way to resolve their differences? Is a Hattori Hanzo sword ever really just a sword? Freud is dead, so we get to decide.

This class is taught by guest instructors Francoise Eipper MD and Alice Huang MD of the Oregon Psychoanalytic Center. Fran and Alice are psychoanalysts and lovers of film. There will be a concurrent course offered through OPC that you can find here.
