The Stepford Wives

The Stepford Wives

Cost:  $22 ($18 members)

Monday, May 26th

A photographer and her husband move to the idyllic town of Stepford, and the vibes are off.  Though it’s based on Ira Levin’s 1972 novel of the same name, many aspects of THE  STEPFORD WIVES (1975, 115 min) feel perfectly at home in the 21st century. This special combination  of social critique, sci-fi horror, and satire continues to inspire storytellers and has brought the idea of the “Stepford Wife” into our collective consciousness.

In this class, we’ll discuss how themes of bodily manipulation, feminism, and morality are used in Levins’ written works, what’s lost or gained in this particular adaptation to film, and the cultural legacy of the Stepford Wife.

This class will be taught by Education Instructor MJ Jackson, who recently taught classes on GET OUT (2017), UPGRADE (2018), and POSSESSOR (2020).

Class size will be limited to 18.
