The Sweet Smell of Success

The Sweet Smell of Success

Cost:  $22 ($18 members)

Tuesday, October 14th

Few actors had the screen presence of Burt Lancaster, and paired with Tony Curtis at the height of his career, this film simmers with unforgettable performances. Under the direction of Alexander Mackendrick, THE SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS (1957, 96 min) captures mid-century New York like no other, combining big personalities with striking style.

In this class, we’ll dive into the film’s sharp edge that anticipated the boldness of New Hollywood, the striking cinematography by James Wong Howe, and its enduring themes of power in media.

This class will be taught by MMU instructor Kia Anne Geraths, a filmmaker and educator. Some of her previous classes include New Hollywood: Early Days, The Rise of Cinéma Vérité, and Into The Twilight Zone.

Class size will be limited to 18.
