Juxtaposition: The Power of the Cut!

In this in-depth exploration of film editing, we examine both the magic invisibility that sustains continuity and flow, and its expressive force through collision of imagery. From the early silent pioneers to Soviet groundbreakers up to today’s filmmakers who continue to explore editorial technique, this two-hour lecture will tour the very foundation of film grammar. As Orson Welles said, “editing is not AN aspect of directing, it is THE aspect.”

This class will be taught by director-writer Jack Perez, a professor of film at USC, PCC, CCC, The NY Film Academy, and The Academy of Art in SF.  He is also the creator of the popular YouTube Premium Channel, CINEFIX. Jack currently lives in Portland with his wife and 4 cats.

Class will be held in room LH115 in Lincoln Hall, at 1620 SW Park Ave, Portland, OR 97201 on the Portland State University Campus.

PSU Students are free with valid student ID! Present ID at door for admission - no ticket needed.

Please note: no food or beverage is permitted in the auditorium.
