Becoming the Bat: Cinematic Origins and Influences on Batman @ PSU

Bob Kane and Bill Finger built Batman, Gotham City, and its many weird denizens with more than a little dollop of inspiration from the movies on their way to launching the character in DETECTIVE COMICS #27 (1939).

In this two-hour lecture class, we'll use film clips, page/panel and screen comparisons to examine the cinematic sources of the Caped Crusader and discuss how these films influence Batman, both on-screen and on the page, even today.

This class will be taught by current Batman scribe Matt Fraction (Batman #1 is on sale now at your local comic book store), an award-winning and New York Times bestselling author of comic books like Sex Criminals, Hawkeye, and Last of the Independents. He co-created, executive produced, and wrote for AppleTV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

Class will be held in room LH115 in Lincoln Hall, at 1620 SW Park Ave, Portland, OR 97201 on the Portland State University Campus.

Please note: no food or beverage is permitted in the auditorium.
