Crash Course: Her Secrets

Crash Course: Her Secrets

Cost:  $30 ($25 members)

Wednesday, July 2nd

For a century, the dark themes everyday women face are reflected back to us by the women we see in horror films. As we watch these characters navigate the horrors society expects women to keep secret, we can free ourselves to feel sane, seen, and safe in our own journeys. They remind us that we don’t have to be monsters to survive monstrous oppression.

In this class, we’ll examine the different secrets that female characters in horror have kept over the decades. We’ll consider what real world themes and societal expectations the secret-keeping reflects and, hopefully, we’ll feel a little more connected over our own secrets.

MMU Crash Course classes offer a low-intensity way to explore a filmmaker or genre, in a friendly environment shared with fellow film lovers. Unlike our MMU seminars, Crash Courses offer a more casual approach. There’s no formal lecture or discussion, but films are curated and presented by staff experts.
