Edgar Wright: From Cult Comedies to Peak Geek
Edgar Wright’s cinematic voice is unmistakable. Described as the “patron saint of fanboy culture” he quickly became one of the most iconic directors of the 00s through reference-heavy genre satires such as SHAUN OF THE DEAD and HOT FUZZ. His films create a signature mix of quirky humor and hyper-relatable vulnerability that take great joy in subverting the same established cinematic tropes that Wright unabashedly loves.
In this class, we’ll follow Edgar Wright’s journey from cult filmmaker to blockbuster director and explore the parallel journey “Nerd Culture'' has taken in concert with his filmmaking career, helping shepherd geek culture from the fringes of tv and film to front and center as mainstream pop culture.
