International Origins: Infernal Affairs

In this single session class, we’ll dive deep into the Hong Kong blockbuster, INFERNAL AFFAIRS (101 min).  Every bit a classic in its own right, Andrew Lau and Alan Mak’s 2002 film paved the way for Martin Scorsese to win his Oscar for the 2006 remake, THE DEPARTED. 

Set soon after Great Britain handed Hong Kong back to China in 1997, INFERNAL AFFAIRS follows a cop and a triad member, each embedded in the other's organizations, as they struggle with their personal and professional identities while trying to expose the traitors in their midst.

Class will include a brief discussion of the making of the film, the assembly of cast and crew, the identity and politics of Hong Kong and its citizens at the time of production, and some other notable remakes.

This class will be taught by visiting assistant instructor Jason Myers. 

Class size will be limited to 18.
