Plunder Road with Film Historian Foster Hirsch

Cost: $22 ($18 members)
Perhaps the most cold-hearted of heist sagas, PLUNDER ROAD (1957, 72 min) this underseen film noir is a revelation and deserves to be considered as equal amongst other giants of the genre, such as THE ASPHALT JUNGLE, and THE KILLING. Starring Gene Raymond and noir-mainstay Elisha Cook, there may not be a more bitter example of the indifferent universe that hovers over film noir.
In this class, we’ll discuss mechanics of the heist saga, and how, because of the restrictions of the Production Code which mandated that crime must be punished, even the most ingeniously orchestrated heist can always be counted on for a collision course with the inevitable.
This class will be taught by guest instructor Foster Hirsch, a professor of film at Brooklyn College and the author of sixteen books on film and theater.
Class size will be limited to 18.
