The Black Cat

Cost: $22 ($18 members)
A film that brings together horror icons Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, THE BLACK CAT is a chilling tale of psychological terror, revenge, and the lingering horrors of war.
In this class, we’ll explore director Edgar G. Ulmer’s striking use of German Expressionism, the film’s controversial pre-Code elements, and the legendary on-screen rivalry between Karloff and Lugosi. Whether you're a classic horror enthusiast or a newcomer to early cinema, this session will shed light on why THE BLACK CAT remains one of the most unsettling and stylish horror films of its era.
This class will be taught by MMU instructor Kia Anne Geraths, a filmmaker and educator. Some of her previous classes include her WTF Was That?! Series, Women Directors in Horror, and Arthouse Horror: Origins.
Class size will be limited to 18.
