The Literary Films of David Cronenberg

The Literary Films of David Cronenberg

Cost:  $90 ($75 members)

Tuesday, June 3rd

His name is so synonymous with body horror it’s even used by some as an adjective to describe it: Cronenbergian. However, before becoming a filmmaker, David Cronenberg was an English Literature major. This love of the written word has remained constant throughout his career as a filmmaker and, in this 4-week course, we’ll be taking a look at some of the adaptations he decided to tackle. From Stephen King to true crime, from Burroughs to Ballard, the genres may change but the tone remains entirely Cronenberg.

Films:

6/3: THE DEAD ZONE (1983, 103 min)

6/10: DEAD RINGERS (1988, 115 min)

6/17: NAKED LUNCH (1991, 115 min)

6/24: CRASH (1996, 100 min)

This class will be taught by Kia Anne Geraths, a filmmaker and educator. Her previous MMU classes include the Cult Horror series, Intro to Varda, Science Fiction B-movies, and more.

Class size will be limited to 18.
