Welcome to Florida

Welcome to Florida

Cost:  $90 ($75 members)

Wednesday, June 4th

Florida in the cultural zeitgeist is… complicated. It’s likely you have some grandiose and unsavory ideas about The Sunshine State, and it’s earned them! Known for its chaotic penchant for freedom at any cost, alligators, and a complicated past, present, and future - Florida is somewhat of a threatening mystery.

This class will weave together different aspects of what makes Florida so unique through the films that take place there. By breaking down the general context and indulging in its weirdness - we’ll be making sense of Florida’s mythos and maybe get a grasp on what the hell is going on over there!

Films:

6/4: SOME KIND OF HEAVEN (2020, 83 min)

6/11: BARB AND STAR GO TO VISTA DEL MAR (2021, 107 min)

6/18: THE BIRDCAGE (1996, 119 min)

6/25: MAGIC MIKE (2012, 110 min)

This class will be taught by MMU Instructor Zoe Gillian, whose recent classes include Exploring Portland Through Film, Twisted Genius: David Fincher and Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?

Class size will be limited to 18.
