What is Directing? at PSU

In this two-hour session, we’ll uncover what it truly means to be a film director, exploring the vital role directors play in shaping a movie from script to screen. We’ll begin with a look at the evolution of film direction, focusing on key figures and movements that have shaped the medium. Through three detailed case studies, we’ll dive into the creative choices and challenges faced by directors, examining how each brings a unique style and vision to storytelling.
This class will be taught by MMU instructor Kia Anne Geraths, a filmmaker and educator. Her previous classes include the Cult Horror series, Intro to Varda, Science Fiction B-movies, and more.
Class will be held in room LH115 in Lincoln Hall, at 1620 SW Park Ave, Portland, OR 97201 on the Portland State University Campus.
