Why Gremlins 2 Matters

The follow up to Joe Dante’s classic Christmas horror film is much more than the punchline of a now famous Key & Peele sketch - it’s one of the most chaotic and hilarious postmodern films of the 90s. Part living cartoon, part social satire, this 4th wall breaking creature-comedy embraces satire at a cellular level, delivering a subversive parody of “the sequel” it promises in the title.
In this class we’ll dive into GREMLINS 2 (1990, 109 min) and explore how it lovingly breaks all the rules (and not just feeding them after midnight…)
This class will be taught by Dylan Reiff, a writer/performer who co-founded Kickstand Comedy and has worked with the Sundance Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, the Stanley Film Festival, and Overlook Film Festival.
